The Azimut-Benetti’s company was started in 1969 when Paolo Vitelli, a student in college, started a charter business for sailboats. Just one year later, major boating companies sought out Vitelli’s company to market and distribute sailboats in Italy. The original name of the company was Azimut Sri. Between the mid 1970s and early 1980s, the company started designing fiberglass yachts. The construction of these fiberglass yachts was leant out to another company. The Azimut boating line was considered to be one of pleasure and not utility. By 1983, Azimut had developed the largest fiberglass yacht in the business - the 105‘ Farlaka. Several boating companies were acquired over the years including Benetti and Fraser Yachts. The Gobbi shipyard was also absorbed by Azimut. 

There are four lines of yacht designed and built by Azimut - Flybridge-Range, S-Range, Leonardo-Range and Magellano-Range. Yacht lengths vary by models, but consumers can order yachts between 38‘ and 120‘ in length. The Leonardo-Range and Magellano-Range are offered in only one length, 100‘ and 79‘ respectively.

The Flybridge-Range line is the most extensive. The term flybridge refers to a fiberglass yacht with a navigational bridge located above the pilot house.Azimut offers the fiberglass yachts with a flybridge design ranging from 38‘ to 116‘. The smallest boat in the line was created to be eco-friendly and easy to handle. Maintenance and upkeep costs tend to be lower due to the smaller size.

The S-Range line of Azimut yachts offers comparable function with the Flybridge-Range yachts, but without the uppermost navigational deck. S-Range is a sporting line of yachts with power and speed at heart. Railings are attached around most of the deck are in place for sportsmen and women who want to fish, cast or troll on open waters. Azimut considers the S-Range an integration between sport fishing boats and yachts.

Leonardo-Range and Magellano-Range are two unique models with only one length and one design. Leonardo-Range is available in a 100‘ length and offers a flybridge and several large open spaces for entertaining and movement. A large terrace is also included in this yachting model. Magellano-Range, a 74‘ yachting model, offers a flybridge and high walled sides for added safety. This model is not for an average day on the water, but rather for extended voyages on the open sea and ocean. This yachting model can travel more than 1100 nautical miles, stop and start in an instant and accelerate to 24 knots. Azimut likes to describe the yacht as an expedition yacht.

It is headquartered in Avigliana, Italy, but also has locations in Shanghai, China and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. An extensive dealership chain spreads across six continents. In the US there are five dealers. Two are on the southern half of the west coast. The other three dealers dot the east coast. Azimut Yachts manufactures its products in 3 lines. The largest line is the Flybridge Range which has 16 models . Five models— the 435, 625, 685, 865 and 1035L comprise the S Range line. A single model— the 98— makes up the Leonardo line. It’\\\'92s an understatement to say that Azimut makes a nice product. The company is known for its engineering ability, as well as its luxury features. Some models measure over 100 feet in length and have three decks. Dual galleys, multiple bedrooms, spacious and well -laid-out dining and living areas are common.
