Formula Boats

Formula boats have been on the water for more than 50 years. Thunderbird was the first design manufactured by the Formula powerboat company. The Thunderbird line was introduced by Woodie Woodson in 1956 in Miami. Formula, company proper, was not founded until 1962 when Don Aronow produced the 233 Deep-V hull. Today, the company is based in Decatur, Indiana. There are currently six series being produced by Formula - Bowrider, Sun Sport, Super Sport, Cruiser, Yacht and FASTech. 

Bowriders from Formula range in length from 24‘ to 31‘. The 240 Bowrider is available in a traditional and sport model. There are very few differences between the two models aside from some interior upgrades available on the sport model and not on the traditional 240. Seating is the only difference on the Formula bowrider between the shortest 240 model and the longest 310. Longer equates to more passengers.

The Sun Sport Formula series is all about spending time on the water. These models are not created for speed, so engine upgrades are not as important as interior upgrades. Cockpits come equipped with stowaway tables and seating. The 240, 310 and 350 models all come with an aft sun lounge that seats two. The shortest Sun Sport model measures 24‘, the 240. The longest is the 350 Sun Sport measuring 35‘. 

In the Super Sport Series, Formula offers two boats - the 370 Super Sport and 400 Super Sport. The bow of the Super Sport series is where cabins are located. Both the 370 and 400 Super Sport come with the FASTech Hull and option to sleep at least four people.

The Cruiser line by Formula is another series that is about comfort over performance. The five boats carrying the Formula Cruiser name are the 27 Cruiser, 31 Cruiser, 34 Cruiser, 37 Cruiser and 40 Cruiser. As is the case with most boats, the larger the number the longer the boat. There does not seem to be many changes made between the standard 27 Cruiser and 37 Cruiser aside from increased space and available options. The 40 Cruiser comes with many more upgraded standard features than other models. The 34 Cruiser is the first model with a dedicated stateroom. The 37 and 40 Cruisers also offer private staterooms.

Though many of the Formula models are yacht certified, the 45 Yacht by Formula is the only one carrying the yacht name. The 45 Yacht measures 48‘2“ though it does measure 45‘ without the platform on the bow. Compared to the standard features, there are very few options available for the 45 Yacht. Typically, yachts are custom made when ordered so standard features may differ from one 45 Yacht to another.

FASTech by Formula is a line of speed boats including the 292, 353 Sport, 353 and 382. All models come standard with upgraded paint packages, integrated swim platform and entertainment systems. All FASTech models come with twin engine installation, but the type of engine and maximum horsepower produced is not available until ordered.
