Grand Banks yachts was founded in 1956 as American Marine by Robert J. Newton. John and Whit Newton, his sons, were also part of the founding business. The family was working in Junk Bay in Hong Kong at the time. Grand Banks founders did not start out creating their own designs, instead they built heavy sailboats and designs from other designers at first. When the trio asked Kenneth Smith to design a diesel cruising boat in 1962, the design sparked the creation of Grand Banks yachts as it is known today. At first, Grand Banks designs were based on worker style boats with very few upgrades. In 2001, Grand Banks yacht owners wanted more and the company stepped up with the Aleutian series. Today, Grand Banks builds yachts in the Heritage, Eastbay and Aleutian lines.

Grand Banks Heritage yachts are available in 41‘, 47‘ and 52‘ varieties. The All models are available with extended salon cabins, but the 47‘ is also available in a tri-cabin design. Grand Banks yachts do not offer typical yacht layouts. The trawler design resembles more of a commercial boat than a luxury yacht, but that is just the Grand Banks way. A raised navigation platform allows 100% of the deck space to be used for entertaining while leaving the lower deck for sleeping and eating.

The Eastbay Series by Grand Banks yachts is another commercial adaptation. This time, the lobster boat is the source of the basic design. Available in 39‘, 45‘, 46‘, 47‘, 49‘ and 55‘ designs, many of the models differ in layout when one is only a small amount longer than the last. Eastbay yachts are powered with dual diesel engines making it a fast cruiser on the water. The navigation cabin is enclosed and there is a small amount of stern deck space for use a sundeck or seating area.

The Aleutian series by Grand Banks yachts was created to answer the call for a bigger boat from current Grand Banks owners in 2001. The series offers five models - 53RP, 59RP, 65RP, 72RP and 72SC. The 72SC offers extended deck space when compared to the 72RP. The SC maintains the covered flybridge, but the upper deck extended out over the lower deck for increased space. The SC is also the first Grand Banks yacht model to offer four staterooms.

Every one of the Grand Banks yacht models offer specifications including  max length, overall length, waterline length, beam max, draft max, water tank capacity, fuel ton capacity, fuel economy and photos of interior and exterior designs and options. Deckplans are customizable on some models. Standard deckplans for the main deck, lower deck and flybridge are available in addition to optional layouts if applicable.
