Gulfstar Boats

Gulfstar got its start in St Petersburg, Florida with Vince Lazzara in 1970. Original production was a line of motor sail boats and trawlers. These boats were priced right and very well received in the boating community. Gulfstar produced both sailboats and power boats which was virtually unheard of in that time period. This gave the company the ability to expand dramatically over the years. Gulfstar broke into the modern motor yacht market when it produced the Gulfstar 48 MY in 1981. A few years later Gulfstar ended all sailboat production to focus on motor yachts. This was in direct response to the slowing sailboat market and the new interest in luxury motor yachts.

The high-tech, high performance motor yacht the Gulfstar 55 MY was introduced in 1987. The Gulfstar 55 MY helped to propel Gulfstar into the limelight as a premier manufacturer of luxury motor yachts. In 1987 Viking Yachts bought out Gulfstar.

Vince Lazzara’s legacy continues today in grandson Rich Lazzara. Rich heads the family owned Lazzara Yachts headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Lazzara Yachts are very high quality luxury yachts in lengths up to 117 feet. Built for the exceptionally wealthy, these yachts come with multimillion dollar price tags.

Smaller used Gulfstar sailboats can be purchased for about $75,000 US while a used motor yacht of the same size could run about $350,000 US.
