In 1959, Knit Wits was the first fiberglass yacht to hit the water at 40‘. That boat was designed and built by Hatteras Yachts. Since that time, the company has set sail 7600 additional Hatteras Yachts on various waters. Located in New Bern, North Carolina - it takes more than 660,000 square feet to produce yachts in the Hatteras Yachts name. The factory is broken into spaces for hull production, laminating room and 280,000 square feet of building space. Hatteras Yachts produces Motor Yachts, Convertibles and the Hatteras GT Series.

Motor Yachts designed by Hatteras Yachts are available in models 60, 64, 72, 80 and 100. The model name directly reflects the length of each Hatteras Yacht. At 60‘11“, the Hatteras 60 Motor Yacht is considered an entry level design. At its highest point, the motor yacht stands 19‘9“ above water. The Hatteras 64 measures 64‘10“ in length and sits 18‘10“ above water. The 72 Motor Yacht is 21‘4“ above water and 72‘ long. The 80 Motor Yacht and 100 Motor Yacht are 79‘10“ and 100‘5“ in length respectively. Both motor yacht models sit just more than 21‘ out of the water.

Hatteras Yachts Motor Yacht series are equipped with various optional arrangements. The 100 Motor Yacht, for instance, can be configured with a flybridge or enclosed bridge. Standard and optional upper and lower decks are also available. The layout of each differs slightly.

The Convertible Series by Hatteras Yachts measure between 54 and 77‘ in length. The names of each model correspond with the Convertible’s length. Convertibles by Hatteras Yachts are created with full fiberglass hulls. The starter Convertible by Hatteras Yachts is the 54 Convertible. With three staterooms and two heads, the convertible can easily be considered an entertainment yacht. The term convertible, however, means the boat is equipped with everything a sportfishing boat has and more.

The newest yachts by Hatteras Yachts are the Hatteras GT Series. Three models are currently available, the GT54, GT60 and GT63. As is the case with all Hatteras Yachts, the model name reflects the length of the boat. The above water design is similar to classic Carolina sportfishing boat, but under the water the Hatteras convex hull reduces bumpiness on the water offers a smooth ride. As a convertible, the Hatteras GT Series of sport yachts offers comfortability and angling support. Below deck includes staterooms, heads, galley, dining area and seating

Every detail about the Hatteras Yacht series is revealed including overall length, freshwater capacity, fuel capacity, range and available engines specs. Interior photos and designs are also available for standard and optional layouts and deck designs.

The first sport fishing yacht that Hatteras produced was a 41 foot sport-fisherman with twin cabins, a 14-foot beam, and two 275 HP Lincoln V8 engines. That first boat embodied the rugged toughness that has come to be synonymous with all yachts in the Hatteras lineup. Her name was Knit Wits and she is still in service today, some 50 years later after a career that took her to Pinas Bay, Panama and the Gulf of Mexico.

Hatteras held on to quality by continuing to construct solid fiberglass hulls below the waterline when other manufacturers began constructing with cored sandwich fiberglass hulls. Full fiberglass is less likely to de-laminate than the cored sandwich fiberglass and offers a much heavier boat than the competition.

Many of the boats that Hatteras produced in the first 25 years in business were designed by the renown marine architect Jack Hargrave. Boats that were designed by Jack Hargrave before his passing in 1997 have long been viewed as American classics. Hatteras Yachts now manufactures sport fishing convertibles up to 100’ long. Hatteras boats all have solid fiberglass bottoms and full five year warrantees.

Used Hatteras yachts and sport fishing convertibles vary widely in price based on length and appointments.
