In 1962 Orval Sommerstedt started Nordic Boats. The family man moved to California and fell into a boat rebuild with a friend. Sommerstedt knew he had found his passion and the idea for the Nordic Boat company was born. When Nordic premiered the 16’ Nordic Long Deck in 1966 the company name took off. After moving the operation to Arizona on the banks of the Colorado River, the name Nordic Boats took off and the rest is marine history.

Nordic Boats was established by a family man and that shows in the boat lines available from the company. Available series include Ski Race, Family Ski, Family Performance, Performance / Poker, Poker Run & Race, Race and Family Performance Catamaran. New prices are listed with dealers and all quote requests are sent to the nearest authorized dealer. There are only 13 models being built at this time.

Due to the varying lengths and upgrade features, new prices typically start at $52,000 for a 22’ Nordic Boat and $169,000 for a 35’ Nordic. Used prices start at $13,000 and increase from there. Nordic Boats are sold through dealers and private owners.

The Ski Race and Family Ski series are the shortest in the Nordic line. These boats are created to pull a rider with great speed and tend to be packed with upgrades specific to the sport of skiing. Tow rigs and ski storage are standard. One of the most popular lines of Nordic Boat is in the Family Performance series. This line includes the 22 Evolution, 25 Rage, 28 Heat and 29 Escape. The 22 Evolution offers a walk through open bow. The 25 Rage and 28 Heat offer a choice between an open or closed bow.  The 29 Escape is available only in open bow format.

From there, things get fast and interesting. The Performance / Poker, Poker Run & Race and Race series are all about speed and fun on the water. Some models are available with open bows for family outings and others have a closed bow option. The longest speed boat in the line is the 47 Cyclone SR. With a modified V hull and all fiberglass construction, there is nothing between the driver and the open water but speed.

Nordic Boats does not offer line of boats as extensive as some companies, but that could be a good thing. The company focuses on family and speed, so buyers looking for one or both of these may find just the right boat with Nordic. Used boats hold value, so buying a Nordic is an investment that will keep paying off year after year.
