Supra began crafting sport boats in 1981 in Greenback, Tennessee, when George Fowler decided to make a luxury ski boat large enough to fit a family. That year, Supra introduced its first boat, the Supra Sport. Skier’s Choice, which owns Supra, is the fastest-growing manufacturer of inboard boats in the marine industry. Supra itself is a leader in technological innovation. It developed the adjustable wake plate and the rear ski locker in 1981, and manufactured the industry’s first open bow inboard, the Supra Rider, in 1983. In 2007 Supra collaborated with Indmar engines to create the first tournament boat catalyzed engine, which was designed to significantly reduce harmful emissions, without a loss of power or speed. Also in 2007, Supra introduced SmartPlate™ technology. Boaters can use SmartPlate™ with Perfect Pass™ to customize their speed and wake shape, and to save their preferences. In 2008, Supra reinvented and redesigned one of its signature models, the Launch 21V, which was the first boat to be designed around the specific needs of waterboarding. The price range for a standard new Supra is about $40,000 to about $83,000. Used Supras can cost anywhere from $2,500 to $67,000, depending on options, year made, condition and specific model. |
