Bass boats are primarily designed for bass fishing although they are often used for catching a wide variety of freshwater fish. Since bass boats are almost exclusively used in freshwater, they are designed to travel in the shallow rivers and lakes that are the habitat for freshwater fish. They range from 16 to 25 feet.  Bass boats have an average maximum capacity of five people; however, they typically only hold one to two people comfortably. Bass boats come equipped with amenities designed specifically for serious anglers including storage areas for tackle and other fishing gear, swivel chairs to allow casting from every angle and a livewell that circulates water allowing caught fish to be kept alive during long fishing expeditions. Bass boats can be geared toward recreational use or tournament use.  Less expensive bass boats are usually constructed from aluminum, have a 25 to 150 horsepower motor and are 16 to 22 feet.  High-end bass boats, which are typically used for tournament use, have a fiberglass hull and a 150-250 horsepower motor and are 19 to 25 feet.   Bass boats use a lightweight construction method that make them easily transportable to fishing areas. Bass boats are typically powered by outboard engines.  Anglers will often use a trolling motor, which is attached to the bow (front of boat) and allows the boat to cruise slowly through promising fishing territory. Some of the most popular bass boat manufacturers include Skeeter, Triton, Ranger, Tracker and BassCat.
