Bay Boats

The term “bay boat” is actually used in reference to several subcategories of smaller freshwater and coastal fishing boats. Bay boats can include scooters, skiffs, bass boats and other fishing rigs. Obviously, the type of bay boat you purchase will depend heavily on the local fishing territory that you intend to use it in. Many fisherman favor fiberglass bay boats for greater maneuverability, but aluminum models tend to be cheaper. Both allow for easy transport to and from fishing areas. Since bay boats are dedicated fishing craft, they also offer amenities specific to the sport. An ideal bay boat includes plenty of dry storage for fishing gear, tackle, bait, etc. Seating on bay boat is highly variable, with some favoring a swivel seat for casting, and others offering a more traditional center console cockpit layout. Since bay boats are first and foremost fishing craft, other features typically include, hull mounted rod holders, a “live well” storage bin that circulates water to keep fish alive, and a trolling motor to allow for a quieter ride and slower speeds. One of the latest advances in the world of bay boats is the “hybrid” hull, which combines a V-hull and a flare hull to allow for both shall bay fishing and also more turbulent coastal angling.
