Canoe

Canoes are usually narrow boats that are pointed at the front and the back of the vessel. Canoes, being a very old design of sea-worthy craft have been for the most part human powered. Thus if a manual canoe is purchased, it will often include paddles as well. Canoes are usually powered by two people due to their length, with the bow passenger driving the canoe forward and the stern passenger steering. Most modern canoes are used for leisurely purposes or for high thrill sports. Touring canoes will allow the passengers a placid trip as they are used in calm lakes and rivers ideal for sightseeing and maybe a little fishing. The canoes that are used for sporting events do not resemble their more organic counterparts very much, but technically are still classified as canoes. Whitewater canoes are used for the high/thrill sport of white water rafting and are ideal if a person wishes to have his or her own vessel while on a rafting trip as opposed to the very large multi-passenger rafts one usually encounters on such trips. Finally, there are racing canoes. These are used in competitive sport and are recognizable by their very narrow body, barely wide enough to accommodate its racers.
