Cuddy Cabin Boats are relatively smaller boats used for sport and leisure alike with a small cabin sometimes containing a galley, and/or head. Cuddy boats range from 18 to 28 feet and can usually hold around eight people comfortably. They are small enough, because of the compromised cabin, to be pulled by trailer. Thus one doesn’t need to be near the water to own one. The name of this type of boat is rather redundant in and of itself. Cuddy, alone, means cabin. So the double term has probably developed from the mixing of idiolects of boat enthusiasts and people just along for the ride as the word cuddy is a common term among boaters. The cuddy/style boat is a popular compromise between completely open boats with no shelter and boats with full cabins and utilities. The cuddy will keep you safe from the elements and is not as expensive as the full cabin-equipped boat. Cuddy Cabins are often powered by stern drive engines and are equipped with a tow line hook making them good candidates for skiing, and the like. A modest sized Cuddy Cabin boat will cost the prospective buyer just under $10,000. Larger models can go well above this depending on size and or what features are included.
