Jon Boats

Jon boats are designed to serve multiple uses as a utility, fishing or hunting boat. The flat bottom makes them very stable and allows them to traverse water traditional V-hulled boats can’t. The wider the hull, the more stable the platform, so Jon boats tend to be quite wide compared to others. Jon boats range from 8 to 20 feet and usually hold up to 5 people.The type of hull required depends on the use and the water it will be used on. A traditional flat Jon is great for fresh water, skinny water or where a V-hull can’t go. If the boat is going to be mainly used for fishing, a pontoon boat might be more suitable. If the water is going to be a bit choppy a modified V-hull Jon would do the trick. The construction also makes a difference to how it’s used. An aluminum boat is strong and doesn’t trap water, but can be heavy to haul up the shore. Wooden boats are cheaper and lighter but can leak and retain water. Companies such as Lowe, G3, Seaark, Starcraft and Triton all make versions of Jons costing anything from £2,500 upwards.
