Kayaks are boats fit for adventurers. They are powered by one to three individuals who paddle with double-bladed oars. The original kayaks were made of wood, but today are comprised of fiberglass, Kevlar, molded plastic and high impact plastic. Modern kayaks are stronger, more resilient, and allow for a safer and dryer boat ride. Dependent upon the model, kayaks can be used for recreation, light touring, or touring. Kayaks are also differentiated by length, width, shape, weight, and the number of seats it contains. Used kayaks fit for beginner boaters are in the $300-$700 range, whereas, kayaks for more advanced boaters are $900-1200. A new Impex, a top-of-the-line kayak manufacturer, can cost as much as $3000. Other popular, and more affordable, brands include Liquid Logic, Hobbie, Ocean Kayak, and Wilderness Systems. The many brands and features are specific to where you want to boat. The right kayak for the ocean may not be the right kayak for ponds and lakes. When an individual is ready to choose a kayak, they must choose the best one they can afford based on how they will use it.
