Your boat will never be complete without the chains and links. These components are more likely used in anchors and docking where the chains are part of the anchoring system. Links on the other hand are normally made of metal that when connected to each other will form a chain.
There are different types of chains being used in boating, according to sources. One of the best known types is called High Test or G4 which means grade 40. This is the commonly preferred to use especially in anchoring as well as in windlass purposes because of its incomparable strength compared to other types of chains like the BBB. Formerly, BBB is the usual chain used in the past because it is very much suited on windlass applications, it is grade 30 and made up of low-carbon steel as its main material. On the other hand, Proof Coil is also part of the list of chains available in the market but this type is not compatible with anchor windlasses due to its lack of uniform pitch. And lastly, the strongest type in the list is the Transport Chain or so-called G7. The Transport Chain is grade 70 and possesses a very high hardness property.
However, the G7 has a limited compatibility with windlasses. Furthermore, there are available quick links applicable for boat trailer chains and at the same time can be used also as safety chains for boat trailers. West Marine, Acco Chain, C E Smith, Seadog, and Suncor are some of the reliable manufacturers of high-grade chains and quick links in the industry.
