Summary

Fishing is a sport that takes a little skill, a lot of patience, and at least a few tools. These days there are actually lots of tools available to make your fishing trip more successful – or at least more comfortable while you wait for that big bite.

You can fish from land, of course, but there are a lot of good fishing spots you can only reach by boat. What kind of boat will depend on you. Equipment like seats and rod holders can attach to almost any boat. Typical small fishing boats include rowboats, bass boats, and the pontoon, whose double floats give lots of stability.

Boat chairs come in a wide range of prices, styles, and comfort levels. The most basic resemble bar stools which fasten to the bottom of the boat and give you just enough of a seat to give your feat a rest. The advantage of these is that they keep you fairly elevated so you maintain a good view. Other seats resemble a hunter’s tree stand, which you clamp to the side of your boat. These let you actually sit down, and may come with a nice amount of padding. More comfortable boat chairs look like the tops of office chairs, and offer lots of padding. Some have a swivel so you can face any direction.

You sometimes need an extra pair of hands out on the water, and a rod holder gives you just that. The holder clamps to the side of the boat, or even the side of your chair. You can set the handle of your rod down in and the holder keeps the rod upright. That avoids getting your line and lure all over the bottom of the boat. If you’re trolling, deep-sea fishing, or fishing with a bobber, you can leave the pole in the holder until you need to reel in your catch.

Other fishing equipment include things like rod storage racks and straps. These tools work like broom closet organizers. You push your pole into the slot and it clips in place. Straps make it more secure. Some models just allow for one pole; others can take several at a time. The storage rack keeps your poles organized, uncluttered, and untangled. When you are ready to fish, just pop it out and you’re all set.
